Ashford Tri Club Takes Over Parkrun – And Invites You to Dive into Triathlon!

Ashford Parkrun got an extra boost of energy and enthusiasm on Saturday 17th May, as Ashford Tri Club (ATC) staged a vibrant “takeover” of the weekly event. The tribe were out in force, with members stepping up as marshals, cheering squads, and pacers for a range of finish times – all delivered with the trademark ATC spirit.

True to form, ATC didn’t just bring the pace – they brought cake too, offering sweet treats at the finish line as a reward for runners of all levels. The event was a joyful celebration of the club’s long-standing connection with the local running community, built over years of support, encouragement, and shared miles.

But the takeover wasn’t just about fun and finish lines – it was also a launchpad for something even bigger. ATC was on the lookout for new recruits (or as they jokingly put it, “victims”) for their flagship event: the Hythe Bay Triathlon, now just around the corner!

Taking place on Sunday 1st June, the Hythe Bay Tri is a perfect entry point into the world of triathlon. With a super-accessible distance – a 250-meter swim, 16km bike ride, and 5km run (the same as Parkrun!) – it’s an ideal challenge for anyone curious about multisport events. And to sweeten the deal, every entrant receives a year’s free membership to what ATC proudly calls “the best triathlon club in the world” – and once you meet them, you might just agree.

If you’re thinking about giving it a go but want to know more, there’s a Beginner’s Guide session at the course on Saturday 24th May, offering a friendly, no-pressure intro to the sport and the course itself.

Ashford Tri Club’s Parkrun takeover was more than a show of numbers – it was a celebration of community, fitness, and the inclusive, welcoming spirit that defines the club. If you’ve ever fancied doing a triathlon, now’s the perfect time to take the plunge.
